AAM Nation Care

Charity Organizations in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone, a nation rich in culture yet marked by a challenging history, is home to numerous charity organizations dedicated to improving the lives of its citizens. Among them is Hope for Lives, founded in 2011 by Thomas ‘Bobby’ Smith, which began by constructing fishing boats for the Murraytown community to alleviate food insecurity.

Similarly, Save the Children has played a crucial role since its establishment in 1919, focusing on the health and education of children affected by the country’s civil war and ongoing crises. Sightsavers aims to prevent avoidable blindness, advocating for marginalized groups, while Project World Impact connects individuals with nonprofits to promote sustainable development. Together, these organizations exemplify a commitment to fostering positive change in Sierra Leone.

Hope for Lives in Sierra Leone

Hope for Lives in Sierra Leone, founded in 2011 by Thomas ‘Bobby’ Smith, began by constructing fishing boats to support the Murraytown community near Freetown. These boats fed up to 100 people weekly, and in 2012, a third boat was added in memory of Keith Henderson. The organization is funded primarily through personal donations, with Bobby working multiple jobs to support its efforts. Precious Amabel Lebby helps coordinate operations in Sierra Leone.

In 2013, Hope for Lives built a library and computer lab at St. Anthony’s Primary School and continues to send supplies like clothing and tools. Beneficiaries include St. Anthony’s School, Connaught Hospital, Murraytown families, and the amputee community. The mission is to empower Sierra Leoneans with skills, tools, and education, improving quality of life and breaking the cycle of poverty. Recent projects include support for the National School for the Deaf and Movement of Faith School.

Save The Children

Save The Children, founded by Eglantyne Jebb in 1919, was established to alleviate the suffering of children across war-torn Europe after World War I. Over a century later, the organization continues to work globally, including in the U.S., to provide children with health, education, and protection, especially in crisis situations.

In Sierra Leone, a country with a tragic history of slavery and civil war, Save the Children’s efforts are particularly crucial. The brutal civil war, ending in 2002, caused mass displacement and loss of life, and the 2014 Ebola outbreak further devastated the country. Today, Sierra Leone remains one of the poorest nations, with many relying on subsistence farming, and children facing significant challenges to their well-being and future. Save the Children is dedicated to improving their lives and opportunities.

Sightsavers

Sightsavers vision is a world where no one suffers from avoidable blindness, and everyone can fully participate in society. We treat eye conditions like cataracts and address diseases that cause sight loss by partnering with governments and organizations at local, national, and international levels. We provide essential eye operations and treatments where needed.

Additionally, we advocate for the rights of women, girls, and people with disabilities, striving to enhance local health services for sustainability. With over 70 years of experience, we are a recognized leader in our field, consistently receiving high performance ratings from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Our work spans across Sierra Leone and Africa, improving healthcare and delivering essential charity services.

Project World Impact

Project World Impact is an online platform that connects individuals and nonprofits to innovative ways of making a positive impact in their communities. Focusing on Sierra Leone, a country in West Africa known for its beautiful landscapes and vibrant music, the platform highlights its development progress.

With a population of over 8 million, Sierra Leone has made strides in healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Its economy is primarily driven by agriculture and mining. However, the country still faces challenges like corruption, political instability, and environmental degradation. Efforts are ongoing to tackle these issues and promote sustainable development in Sierra Leone. Project World Impact serves as a valuable resource for those looking to contribute to these efforts and foster growth in developing regions like Sierra Leone.

VolunteerMatch

Since 1998, VolunteerMatch has leveraged technology to generate over $14 billion in volunteer time for the social sector. As the largest volunteer recruiting platform on the web, it connects millions of volunteers and nonprofits, creating significant social impact. VolunteerMatch serves thousands of nonprofits and engages one million volunteers each month. Additionally, through its corporate volunteering product, YourMatch, it has generated more than $40 million in mission-related revenue.

The organization’s mission is to change lives through volunteering, emphasizing the power of service to build community, foster hope, and create meaningful connections. VolunteerMatch believes that everyone should have the chance to contribute to the greater good. Its purpose is to unite people and communities through service, while its vision is to build a digital infrastructure that amplifies the spirit and impact of volunteering on a large scale.

This list of charities in Yemen isn’t the whole list of those out there, and AAM Nation Care is yet another amazing organization caring about people and their future.
