There are plenty of superb charities in Croatia that make a difference in people’s lives. Whether supporting children living in poverty or helping victims of abuse start again, there are charities for almost every cause in Croatia. While we cannot possibly cover all of them, here are a few charities we think are particularly worthwhile.

Domine – Organization For Promotion Of Women’s Rights

This charity was established in 2002 with the purpose of promoting women’s rights and encouraging the development of a progressive and equal society. They act regularly on issues such as women’s empowerment, implementation and the politics of equal opportunities and prevention of violence against women.

Caritas Croatia

This charity was founded in 1992 in response to the needs of people whose lives were impacted by the Croatian Homeland war in the early part of the 1990s. They have the aim of removing some of the causes of poverty and providing social justice and stability. They also give aid in emergency situations and advocate for impoverished families across the country.

This charity is interested in the eradication of racism, xenophobia, ethnic exclusivity, peace education and nonviolent affirmation, human security, and socio-economic justice.

Dumovec is an animal sanctuary that mostly houses unwanted and abandoned dogs, although it also accepts other abandoned animal species.

The Children’s Hospital of Zagreb is a central and unique institution for the health care of children and adolescents in Croatia. It is also the only one of its kind in the country.

Vestigium is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to improve the quality of citizens’ lives through the implementation of healthy and innovative activities.

SOS Children’s Villages

A number of social centers in major cities are operated by this multinational organization dedicated to ending child poverty. These facilities provide assistance to families in need.
