Founded in 1995 by a ten-year-old child, The Smile of the Child has the aim of making every child smile. They address the potential threats to children – poverty, health issues and violence and run daycare centres where families in poverty can receive the help they need to fulfil their children’s basic needs. They also have support centers across the country offering psychological and medical help. The services are free to every child in Greece.
Lifting Hands International works with refugees across the world but has its roots in Greece. It is just a few meters from refugee camps in Serres and is a place where refugees can take classes. They also distribute aid products and skills to help refugees escape a life of poverty
Hellenic Hope has a focus on helping children who live in poverty. They provide food, medical supplies, educational opportunities and emotional support through the use of sponsor programs. One such program was one with American Farm School, where underprivileged high school students in Northern Greece were given access to some superb educational and commercial activities.
The Association Orama Elpidas is a non-profit organisation. Founded in 2012, it provides yet another link to the medical, mental and social care offered by the Friends of Children with Cancer Association.
Founded in 2004, Praksis is a non-profit organization that carries on the work of Doctors Without Borders, with a primary focus on medical services. Since then, it has provided a variety of services to provide more holistic care, including housing and shelter for refugees and the homeless, legal services, psychological services, medical examinations and other programs and services.
Founded in 1990, the Greece branch of Médecins du Monde (Doctors of the World, or MDM) is dedicated to ensuring that everyone in the country has access to basic health care. Along with basic health needs, such as medicines and vaccinations for vulnerable populations, MDM provides shelter and services for refugees and migrants, housing for the homeless, mental health programs, and services for uninsured families and children.
This is an international organization dedicated to eradicating child poverty, operates a number of social centers in major cities to assist families in need. Job training, educational support, and counseling services are all available at these locations. There are also children’s villages, which provide housing, counseling, and other services to help children and families successfully connect into local communities.
The Greek Red Cross provides include social support and integration centers for refugees, free vaccinations for infants and children, health services and education programs, housing assistance for the homeless, services for the elderly and people with disabilities, mental health services, and youth programs.
ActionAid is an organization that fights poverty and inequality around the world. In collaboration with the poor and marginalized, ActionAid aspires to improve the political influence of the poor, increase educational possibilities, and advocate for the rights of women and young girls.
The Ark of the World is a faith-based non-profit organization that seeks to provide food, clothing, education, medical, and dental treatment to children in need throughout Greece, as well as financial assistance to destitute, single-parent households. The social workers employed by the organization also give family and career counseling.
