Backpacks For Life

Backpacks For Life (BFL) is a Jersey City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting homeless and at-risk veterans in their transition to civilian life. Founded by Sgt. Brett D’Alessandro after his deployment to Afghanistan, BFL provides veterans with backpacks containing essential daily and long-term supplies, symbolizing hope and support.  To date, over 11,000 backpacks have been distributed across 35 states. 

BFL’s signature product, The Bowery Pack, is designed with features like a sleep mat, locking cable, detachable toiletry kit, whistle clip, and reflective tape to enhance safety and security for veterans on the streets or in shelters.  Additionally, BFL offers a mentorship program, working one-on-one with veterans to navigate resources such as resume assistance and financial guidance, aiming to empower them towards self-sufficiency. 

United Way of Hudson Count

United Way of Hudson County, based in Jersey City, is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating positive and sustainable change in the community. Salvation Army Corps Community Center

The Salvation Army Corps Community Center in Jersey City is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the communities of Bayonne, Hoboken, and Jersey City. Led by Major Bayode and Captain Noemi Agbaje, the center offers a variety of programs aimed at meeting physical, mental, and spiritual needs. These include Sunday worship services at 11:00 AM, a day care program operating weekdays from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and an after-school program from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM.

Additionally, the center provides a food pantry open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting at 9:30 AM, youth basketball and soccer programs, women’s ministries on Wednesdays at 11:00 AM, Bible study on Thursdays at 7:00 PM, and children’s Friday Sunday School at 3:30 PM. Emphasizing inclusivity, the center welcomes all individuals to participate in its church services and community programs.
