Charity Organizations in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is home to several impactful charity organizations dedicated to uplifting vulnerable populations, including children, youth, and women. These organizations, such as the Oasis Public Charitable Foundation, Soros Foundation–Kyrgyzstan, Grassroots, Operation Mercy, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), work collaboratively to address social issues ranging from education and health to humanitarian aid. Their diverse initiatives not only provide essential resources and support but also empower individuals to lead independent, fulfilling lives, significantly contributing to the country’s social development and community resilience.

Oasis Public Charitable Foundation

The Oasis Public Charitable Foundation is a non-governmental organization focused on supporting vulnerable children, youth, and women. Its mission is to empower at-risk individuals, including orphanage graduates, victims of gender-based violence, human trafficking, and youth in conflict with the law, by promoting social protection and integration.

The Foundation equips vulnerable children and women with essential skills to help them transition to independent and self-sufficient lives after leaving orphanages or boarding schools. To achieve its goals, Oasis partners with key government entities in Kyrgyzstan, including the Ministry of Justice’s Probation Department, the Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Ministries of Labor, Social Development, Education, and Science. Over the past five years, the Foundation has helped more than 600 minors, providing them with access to further education and opportunities for personal growth and development.

Soros Foundation–Kyrgyzstan

The Soros Foundation–Kyrgyzstan was founded in 1993, shortly after Kyrgyzstan gained independence following the Soviet Union’s collapse. Like other George Soros-backed foundations in former Soviet states, its mission was to support the country’s transition to a democratic, open society. Guided by a local advisory board composed of civil society leaders and activists, the foundation initially focused on modernizing and reforming Kyrgyzstan’s education and health systems. Over the years, it became a flexible and innovative grant-making organization within the international donor community.

For more than three decades, its initiatives spanned diverse areas, from providing clean water to rural areas to updating data protection laws. Throughout its operations, the foundation aligned with the core goals of the Open Society Foundations: advancing justice, democratic governance, and human rights.

Grassroots

In Kyrgyzstan, Grassroots collaborates with a local partner organization to support children in need. This partner identifies children, interviews them and their families, and regularly monitors their well-being. Each child is sponsored for £7.50 per month or £90 annually. The funds are used to ensure the child has essential resources for school or other educational opportunities, with a portion allocated to clothing, food, and nutrition.

Additional funds are tailored to specific family needs, which vary from case to case. A small portion is reserved for a medical fund in case any sponsored child requires healthcare. The distribution of funds is flexible, depending on the child’s age and family circumstances, ensuring that each child receives a minimum of the full sponsorship amount of £90 per year. This approach ensures that support is adapted to individual needs while maintaining a consistent commitment to improving the children’s well-being.

Operation Mercy

Operation Mercy is an international relief and development organization with over 30 years of experience dedicated to serving the poor and marginalized across ten countries in Central Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East. The organization focuses on community development and humanitarian aid projects, aiming to restore hope, enhance capacity, and foster community through collaborative relief and development initiatives that transform lives.

In Kyrgyzstan, in addition to larger projects, Operation Mercy conducts numerous short-term initiatives and events that operate outside the main project frameworks. These include pilot projects in new areas and those directly requested by the communities they serve. A central tenet of their work is promoting community initiative and capacity building, ensuring that local involvement and empowerment are prioritized in every project. Through these efforts, Operation Mercy strives to create lasting change and support sustainable development, ultimately contributing to the well-being and resilience of the communities they engage with.

International Organization for Migration (IOM)

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) began its operations in Kyrgyzstan in 1997, marking its first official mission in the country. Since then, IOM has been dedicated to addressing the humanitarian needs of various vulnerable groups, including migrants, internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities.

To fulfill its mission, IOM provides a wide range of services, including direct humanitarian assistance and recreational activities designed to support these populations. Their efforts focus on alleviating the challenges faced by these groups and fostering community resilience. Through its comprehensive approach, IOM aims to improve the living conditions and overall well-being of those affected by migration and displacement in Kyrgyzstan.

This list of charities in Yemen isn’t the whole list of those out there, and AAM Nation Care is yet another amazing organization caring about people and their future.
