Supported by the Ottawa community and fundraising efforts, land was purchased, and in 2012, Somali Hope Academy officially opened. The foundation’s mission is to offer free, high-quality, and equitable education to boys and girls in rural Somalia.

Hodan Somali Community

Hodan Somali Community is a West London-based organization founded in 2006 to meet the needs of the local Somali community. Initially run by volunteers with a small local grant, it has since expanded with a paid director and a dedicated volunteer base. Over the years, the organization has grown its outreach to serve not only the Somali community but also women from diverse ethnic groups through its “Health Empowerment and Engagement Club for Women.” Hodan primarily supports vulnerable groups, including single mothers, the elderly, people with disabilities or mental health issues, and young people not in education or employment. Somali Youth for Peace and Development (SYPD)

ADRA Somali, part of this network, has worked in Somalia since 1992, focusing on sustainable development by empowering communities to lead their own progress. Rather than treating communities as aid recipients, ADRA Somali partners with them to create and implement strategies that meet their needs.
