It’s a common question we hear. “How much should I give?” The answer to this isn’t the same for everyone. However, there are a few recommendations you might want to follow.
What is “generous” is determined by what you earn and what your essential living expenses are. Keep in mind the wealth that you might have relative to those who would benefit from your giving and think about the difference that you can make by giving a little more than you have in the past.
The most important part about thinking about what you can give is recognizing the limit to reasonable giving. You wouldn’t ask anyone else to give you the money that they need for their food or the roof over the head, so don’t give any money that puts you in financial risk.
The single best way to make sure that you’re giving reasonable and generously is to budget it ahead of time. Look at your expenses and income and consider how much money you might have to spare. Many people choose 10% as a reasonable benchmark or their earnings to give to charity, but even 1% can help, especially if you give it regularly.
At AAM Nation Care, we always recommend that our community gives what they can, but only in ways that are reasonable and sensible for them. We will make good use of what you can donate, but make sure that you’re not putting yourself at any risk of financial distress.
