How Much Would It Cost To End World Hunger?

If you had to guess, how many people across the world regularly do not have enough to eat? According to a report by the United Nations, an estimated 957 million people are experiencing hunger. That’s more than one-eighth of the entire global population. With so many people going hungry, how much would it really cost to end world hunger?

Causes of world hunger

To determine the cost of ending world hunger, the causes of the problem must first be established. The main source of world hunger is climate change, which is projected to cause more natural disasters requiring humanitarian aid with each passing year. Solving world hunger, therefore, requires taking aggressive climate action to avoid preventable natural disasters from occurring each year.

Cost to end world hunger

A study published in 2020 found that ending world hunger by 2030 would cost a staggering 330 billion dollars. To achieve this, donors need to not only increase their donations, but donations need to be used in a different way. The types of crops grown and harvested need to change to more nutrient-dense foods, access to agricultural technology must be increased, and trade systems improved.
